Rocky Gap in October. Some years the park bursts with color, other years with rain—or heat—or both.

This year’s 4th annual EX2 Adventures 25K • 50K • Relay Trail Run started in a drizzly mist that gave way to dry, soft gray skies. Perfect conditions for focusing on the essentials: rocks and roots, climbs and descents, and those narrow trails threading through cathedral-tall pines.

From the first climb above the lake to the last lap through basecamp, the day was full of that trademark EX2 energy—runners helping runners, sharing smiles, encouragement, and the occasional first-aid kit that actually came in handy.

All of it unfolded under the quiet rhythm of a photographer’s 50th birthday—behind the lens, in the pines, watching stories expose one frame at a time.
